I am pleased to announce that DonRowe.Com and Vector have teamed up to supply CMT’s Trick my Truck with Vector power inverters for use on their show. At some point in the show they will show a hands on approach to installing a power inverter. Please look for our banner that will be posted in their shop. The first episodes of the show will air on Feb 3rd 2006. So tune into CMT to check it out.
Jon,
Great Blog you have!
My question is to the direction of having a substantial portion of my home operational during a blackout.
Silly question, but how much time would it take to recharge a 24V battery using a 2400V gasoline powered generator?
Anotherwords, what is the cost to recharge, is there a formula?
Thanks,
Kev
Hi Kev,
The only way to recharge the 24 volt battery is with a 24 volt battery charger. Most generators have the capability to produce DC current but it is 12 volt and is a really low DC ampherage. You can however plug a battery charger that is 24 volt into the generator and recharge the battery that way. The time it takes to recharge the battery will depend on the battery charger. The higher the amps the faster it will charge. I do not know of any way to determine cost of operating with a generator. I hope that this helps you.

Muchas Gracias.
Hi Jon
Nice to see a technical blog.
I am working in a automotive industry and our company is one of the tier one supplier in india.
We have a new input to design a 110V/150W truck for FORD. Do you have any details about that or can u give some weblinks related to that?
Thanks
Karuna

Hi,John,
This is my first attempt to answer a post. This is my answer for Kev’s question [how much time would it take to recharge a 24V battery using a 2400V gasoline powered generator?]
It will depend upon Ampere Hour Capacity of Battery.Let us assume the battery of 100 AH is charged at the rate of 10 Ampere by Battery charger then it would take normally 8 to 10 Hours.
Or better still a battery charger with automatic cutout can be connected to the generator, so that battery will never be overcharged.
I hope that solves the problem.
Nice Blog. In relation to the previous post. Now, I know that it’s possible to recharge a 24V battery using a 2400V gasoline powered generator . Thanks for the information.
Great for you. I hope to be featured too on CMT show.
